July 31 Weekend WondersWell this weekend was a big weekend for me, I achieved (is getting drunk for the 1st time in months an achievement?) a lot of things a set out to do which is big for me because I do tend to procrastinate a lot (I’m sitting here writing this instead of doing work which will have to be done in the near future).
I’ll start at the beginning, about two weeks ago I bought a brand new queen size bed (many thanks to Dean for getting me an über good deal at Capt. Snooze) and this weekend I finally had the cash to buy it and pick it up. My dad arrived home from work around 8.15am with a van from work so we could actually transport the bed home without any difficulty, we left not long after. As soon as we left my house it dawned on me that it doesn’t take 35 minutes to get to Captain Snooze in Chirnside Park from our house, especially that early in the morning. Sadly I was correct and we arrived to an empty Captain Snooze. After a short wait I went inside to organise everything when something else went wrong. Turns out I have an $800 limit on my EFTPOS card (I already knew there was a limit, I just thought it was when you withdrew actual cash, sadly, this time I was wrong), I had to pay $880, after another half hour or so of screwing around trying to organised funds my father payed for $400 worth on his credit card and I paid the remaining cash.
We drove round to the back where I met a cheerful Dean who helped my Dad carry the mattress and the base to the van, I just supervised (and did a fine job of it too mind you!) because I’m so limp wristed. We got the bed home and unloaded it in to the “car hold” as I was still to make room for it in my bedroom. I planned on cleaning my room when we returned but I ended up falling asleep on the couch.
When I woke up I went out to my room to begin the clean up, I did my usual ritual of putting a CD on, turning it up full volume and went to work. Basically I unassembled my bed, moved it all (the mattress and the frame) by myself out to the back yard and moved all my furniture around. Once I did all this I did all the general little things you do while cleaning not really worth mentioning. I also set up my drum kit (Which I’ll talk about later) which was a pain in the ass, but hey it was worth it in the end. I couldn’t actually set up my new bed as there was nobody home to help me carry it down to my room which is a fair journey when you think about it.
After all this I went shopping at Knox with Elesha, she needed to find clothes, actually she didn’t “need” to, she wanted to. That girl spends what she makes working on Saturday nights on clothes to wear to work on Saturday nights, it’s crazy! We also made a trip to Sexyland, possibly the greatest store on the planet (special mention to JB Hi-Fi which also ranks very high on my list).
I had invited peeps around to my house from 6.30pm onwards for pre-drinks before Tiffs party, I didn’t get home till just after 6, so I was galloping around like a mad horse on acid. After beating Brad at darts and having our pre-drinks a surprisingly large group of us caught the train in. The trip in was painful, my need to urinate was amazing, I’ve never hurt so badly in my life! There was also some old creepy guy who kept starring at us. I did manage to get Brad to get his photo taken with a group of girls, it was a bet for $5, in the end I paid him but I don’t think I should have both their heads were cut off in the photo, but kudos for the effort I guess.
We got to the pub and we did the usual stuff you do when you go out talk, drink etc, I got nicely toasted for the 1st time in over 4 months which was hella fun. I remember most of the night but there are a couple of foggy patches which I’m still trying to fill in, like if I went to DV8 or not, I think I did but I may have dreamt it. Trying to get a taxi home proved to be a lot harder than usual. We had some asshole driver pull over and then drive off once he found out Trent was blind (fuck you asshole!), we eventually found a cab after about 30 minutes (30 minutes of drunk time mind you, it may have actually been 10 minutes, it may have been an hour).
The next day I woke up around 1pm with only a minor headache so it was time to get organised for the day. My dad helped me carry down my new bed and I went to work on re-arranging my bedroom. It looks completely different now, it’s weird, I’m not a big fan of change when it comes to moving things around, actually I quite hate it! This took me a few hours but when I finished I found it was well worth the effort. Plus my drum kit was now set up (minus a floor tom because Nick still has a couple of parts for it), so I sat there for a couple of hours trying to get my groove back, it was awesome! I haven’t played in so long, getting back on it makes me wonder why I waited so long to set it up again, I just love it. I then went to sleep on my nice new bed and my god it was great! So Spacious!
Anyway for those who read this to the very end, congratulations, it’s a very long blog indeed. And as usual comments are appreciated. July 28 iPod WarsAfter reading blogs by both Pat (http://pat.xyonic.com/blog/2006/07/ipod-wars-brad-vs-pat.html) and Brad (http://www.theshithaus.com/blog/40) it inspired me to throw my songs into “Pepsi-Co Arena of Evil”. I think I did ok for myself, I tried to rank my scores as honestly as possible. I tried to be a little harsher on myself for the songs by Disturbed, I wanted to give them a higher score (8 or a 9) because they are one of my favourite bands. But I know that they have other songs which are much better out than the ones that came up on my list.
Well anyway here’s my list: - P!ATD – Camisado (9/10) - Nine Inch Nails – Hand That Feeds (7/10) - Avenged Sevenfold - Burn It Down (6/10) - Tool – Undertow (9/10) - Disturbed – Bound (7/10) - S.O.A.D – Prison Song (9/10) - Disturbed – Overburden (7/10) - The Used – Noise and Kisses (6/10) - X-Slipknot – Vermillion (5/10) (Skipped)-X - Lost Prophets – I Don’t Know (8/10) - Tool – 4 Degrees (8/10)
TOTAL = 75
I think I did ok for myself, what do you guys think?
On another music related matter one of my songs for this “iPod War” was by Avenged Sevenfold, and I have never actually listened to their music even though I have 2 albums. You know what, I thought it was pretty rocking and I’m really starting to get into it. July 27 Deleted BlogOk here’s the situation and the reason why I deleted the previous blog. Thankyou every one for your input and at least I know who I can turn to these days. Although I meant everything I said in the blog, and don’t regret saying it, I know now I should not have posted it. As I said I was very angry and upset, but it was the wrong thing to do and I should have gone about the problem better.
Elesha and I have sort of cleared things up for now so please don’t hate her, she’s just as confused about things as I am. Thankyou and I’m sorry for dragging everybody into it. July 18 A Quick NoteJust a quick message saying i haven't forgoten about blogging.
I'm currently in a 3 day workshop at work (i'll blog more specifically later) and don't have a whole lot of time.
On another note i added Deans new Indoor soccer website to the links so check it out July 12 Meet The ParentsIt’s usually a big deal with most relationships, but for me it was just another day (probably because I’m so damn awesome). That’s right folks, I met my girlfriend’s parents for the first time a few days ago and it wasn’t as terrible as I was expecting it to be. They way Elesha spoke about her parents I was thinking they would be all Nazi like with their views and attitudes towards everything. I was expecting really religious people, and well, me, being me, and coincidently looking like me (multiple piercings and all) I wasn’t expecting the warmest welcome.
How ever I was pleasantly surprised when I met Elesha’s mother. She was just like most mums, and she didn’t seem to care too much about my appearance, well nothing that was mentioned to me anyway. I managed to work my occupation and what kind of car I drive in to the conversation we had, so hopefully she didn’t think I was some drop kick deadbeat. She even fed me chicken soup, now it was no where near as tasty as my mothers or nannas, but it was pretty darn close! Elesha seems to think her mum liked me because when she met other boyfriends/friends if she doesn’t like the she just leave them alone and hides in the kitchen, but we had a pleasant chat.
I met Elesha’s dad briefly the next day and he seems like quite a knowledgeable person. I don’t have any idea of what his opinion on me may be. Regardless of which I think I made a good impression. They invited me round to their family dinner even though Elesha wouldn’t have been there due to work, I politely declined the invite (it may have been slightly awkward), but hey, I guess they don’t hate me.
After meeting them I do understand however why Elesha has such big issues with them and how they treat her. They were forever hounding her about jobs, money, health and about her car, I don’t recall hearing a “how are you?” or any sort of pleasantries for that matter. But to me they just sounded like concerned parents, and they did make a couple of very valid points which I told Elesha about afterwards.
I wouldn’t say I’m looking forward to the next time I meet them, but they aren’t horrible people at all which is what I was originally led to believe. July 01 The Rechargeable Battery GnomesOk here’s the situation as it stands….
For the last few weeks I have been looking for my battery chargers. I know for a fact that I own two of the damn things, I got one with my digital camera and the other I bought with my own free will. I have been searching everywhere for these things, but I have been unable to find them anywhere. So today I went down to the garage and borrowed one of my fathers chargers.
So today at around 1pm when I wandered up from my room to the house I plugged the chargers in so I could charge my batteries for my digital camera. I dagged around for a while then I decided to go get some petrol and a late lunch/dinner for myself. I left my house around 3.30. I got petrol and some food, this was quite uneventful so there’s no point in going into detail.
I arrived home at around 4.30 with my dinner and hand and a car full of fuel. I sat down and watched south parked as I chowed down on my smoked salmon sandwich. When I finish I got up to use the computer and check if the batteries had finished charging yet and to my disbelief the charger has freaking disappeared. I was baffled, where the smeg had it gone, the only person who was home is my dad and he’s asleep as usual on the couch.
Thinking he may have moved it somewhere for some reason I start looking around the house. I look around where the charger was previously charging, I check my old bedroom, my dads bedroom, my sisters bedroom, EVERYWHERE! And I still can’t find it! Out of frustration I go over and wake my dad up and he says he hasn’t moved it, he has no clue and just rolls back over and goes to sleep. Nobody else could have moved it because nobody else is home.
Am I not supposed to have charged batteries?? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??June 28 Down With the SicknessWell, turns out I’m probably not having withdrawals from cutting my supply of V Black. I actually have a cold or the flu, I don’t which one of the two, what’s the difference anyway? I feel like crap regardless of what I actually have.
Usually, when I feel this crap (and even when I just feel like slacking off for that matter) I’d call in sick to work, but because of my new position in the company I’m trying to be more committed. And I tell you what fellow readers, it’s killing me! For once I’m actually sick and I’m here, when really I should be home in bed.
Now I could sook some more about this but there’s no point because I’m still going to feel like pooh. However it led (sp?) to thinking about everyone else who turns up to work every time they are legitimately sick. I have a new found respect for these people because I now know it’s not that easy.
What’s the sickest you have ever been and still managed to get yourself to work? June 27 V For AddictionI think I have become addicted to the energy drink “V Black”. The drink quite frankly is the bee’s knees, I can’t get enough of the stuff. I recently started drinking such copious amounts because I have not been sleeping well. I’ve roughly only been getting 2 or 3 hours (if I’m lucky) an evening. This is partially my fault because I will find something other than sleeping to do (like watch the soccer), but on every other night I have so many thoughts running through my head I just can’t sleep.
Before today I was averaging 3 or 4 bottles daily (this has been going on for almost 2 and a half weeks) when the recommended limit is 2 bottles maximum daily. I was having so much V that after a while I would develop the shakes after each bottle. I also found out that a mate at my work used to take a lot of guarana pills and as a direct result now has to wear glasses. V has a fair amount of guarana in it also. Now I think I look good in glasses but I don’t particularly want to damage my sight and have to wear glasses all the time.
Due to this I thought it was a wise idea to try and quit. It’s only been 2 days, but it’s been a lot harder than you would think, especially seeing as I’m still having very late, very sleepless nights (curse your world cup football!). Plus I think my body has had a reaction to not having the caffeine, guarana or large amounts of sugar in my body. I’m suffering from a terrible headache (I don’t usually get headaches), my muscles really hurt and my eyes feel über strained and for no real reason yesterday I was insanely grumpy and depressed. Now you may say this is because I haven’t slept, but generally speaking I don’t sleep a lot usually. Growing up during high school I’d only average maybe 4 or 5 hours (on a good night) and evening.
Now instead of drinking V, I’m drinking lots and lots of water. I’m going to keep a running tally of how much water I’m drinking daily instead of V. Currently after almost 7 hours at work I’ve drank 3 litres of water and currently on my 6th full 600ml bottle. I figure it will flush all the crap out of my system and I should feel better in no time. June 23 Comming up NEXTWell last night a small group of us decided to go to NEXT (not to be confused with Next Blue) to celebrate Rhy’s going away to Germany for 3 months and it was one of the best nights I’ve had at NEXT in a while. I was really in the mood to go and I had decided I would go out semi Emo. This means I wore tight black jeans, tight black shirt with the heart-a-gram, my heart-a-gram necklace, my wrist bands and my converse. The only thing that was missing was the fringe (and the cuts on my arms). And you know what… I looked good, even if I don’t say so myself.
Apart from the usual screwing around trying to get everyone organised, who’s picking who up, times, people changing their minds left right and centre etc, we eventually got there by around 9.30. And it was reasonably empty (which was expected as it only opened at 9) with some crappy hardcore band playing. Rhys and Niki got to work on getting suitably hammered. We did the usual stuff we do when we get there, bag out some of the music, the people there and made a brief visit to the punk room where Bri and Niki attempted “skanking” (quite poorly mind you J) and a variety of other “punk” dances. It proved to be amusing for a whole 20 minutes or so.
The music was fairly dull for the 1st half of the evening (it was mostly hard core) with the occasional song to keep me entertained. When the songs started to pick up Rhys, Bri, Niki and I moved to the dance floor just as the others turned up. And from here, the night only got better. We danced for roughly an hour and a half to two hours and during this period of time the music was mostly awesome, I worked up such a sweat and I’m surprised I still have a voice today after screaming “Let The Bodies Hit The Floor” with Rhys.
There was strange incident however (there’s usually at least one when you go to NEXT, there are a lot of crazy people who go there), I was talking a quick break during one of the less danceable songs when a girl approaches, the conversation was as follows:
Girl: Hey you have a heart (pointing to my shirt), do you like love? *confused look on my face* Myself: Um… yeah, I guess so Girl: Mines almost the same (shows pentagram necklace) Myself: Haha (forced fake laugh) almost Girl: Can I have a hug? Myself: Yeah…. (still very confused) sure *hugs* Girl: Thankyou…. (leans in closer) may I have a kiss *moves in* Myself: Ah…. No… sorry (kinda shoves her off) *girl pouts and moves on*
About five minutes later she’s hassling Brad which I found quite amusing cause it wasn’t me. Usually this kind of behaviour is most welcomed because it save me the whole “I’m BRO - *voice breaks* - DIE” approach when talking to women in clubs, however I’m no longer a single man and I have no intention of doing anything in harming that, as I’m very happy man at the moment.
The rest of the night was spent dancing, Bri, Elyse and I said goodbye to the others around 1.45am and headed home. I went back to Elesha’s and by the time I got there I saw no point in sleeping so we watched Bring It On, then the soccer at 5am. I still haven’t slept and once again I don’t feel too terrible. June 19 All quiet on the western frontWell this weekend was uncharacteristically quiet and quite and laid back for me. It’s the fist weekend in a long time where I have been content with doing very little. I had a very quiet Friday evening as I decided I would go to work on Saturday morning for a few hours, woo double time! I will have money to spoil Elesha next week. I’ve been feeling real poor lately and haven’t been able to take her out places or generally go out at all.
Saturday I woke up at 5.30am and went and picked Andrew up for work, I started at 6.30am and worked through to 1.30pm, my god I can’t wait for this weeks pay check. When I finished worked I basically went straight home to bed. However like the rest of this week although I was tré tired but I couldn’t sleep. I went round to Elesha’s later in the evening to chill and grab some food. She was going to a gig at DV8 and was struggling to find something to wear. We ended up at Sexyland (god bless that store) buying “PVC Rock Tape” I think it was called. Basically it’s just a thin layer of PVC wrapped around itself (like sticky tape) and you make “clothes” (and I use the term lightly) out of it. I had never had so much fun trying to dress someone, mind you I thinks she’s the first person other than myself I’ve ever tried to dress, however once it was on I just wanted to rip it off and go crazy. She did looked über sexy.
After leaving Elesha’s unfulfilled I went and saw “The Break Up” starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. I thought it was a pretty good film all round, it’s definitely worth a look. It does a very good job of showing how dramatic a break up can be, I noticed Briony shedding a few tears throughout the flick and I can guess why. I did chuckle at her expense though as I do when people cry during movies, as it is, “just a movie”. It also does a good job displaying “crazy woman logic” where in order to show a man how much he needs her, she dumps him, treats him like crap and thinks he will come back. This would never work, if I was her I just would have stopped doing everything and mimicked what he does, work, get home, drink and watch T.V, he’d then start to realise shit isn’t being done around the house.
After the movies I retired home to bed, I tried to sleep. And again I failed. So I decided to stay awake until as late as I could and go to bed and sleep all of Sunday so I could stay up and watch the world cup, I knew the only person who could help me do this (purely because she does it most of the week anyway J ) was Elesha, so I gave her a buzz and rocket up ay 6.30am Sunday, we slept right through to 5.30pm. It was great seeing as I had had very little sleep for the past week.
After we woke up and organised ourselves dinner I left to pick up Briony, Tiff and Bert up as we were going to watch Australia Vs Brazil at the Cameo theatre in Belgrave. I was worried if it would still be on, and if anyone would actually show up at all considering it was in Belgrave. Well weren’t we surprised, it was freaking sold out! Talk about disappointing, we were all pumped, Bri and Tiff had been drinking as usually and we were ready to go. We ended up at the Croydon hotel, I thought there would be a few people there, and once again I was wrong. It was almost empty. That didn’t stop us from having fun though, I went on a mad rush to go and pick Elesha up because she decided she wanted to come, I made it from Croydon to Heathmont and back in around 25 minutes. Several lights were run and speed signs ignored ( if i got a speeding ticket here i would be angry, but i know i deserve it, unlike 60 in a 50 zone!) but I was proud of the time I made and I only missed like 3 minutes after kick off.
The game itself was disappointing, but I’ll post my thoughts on that later. By the time the match finished and I had dropped everyone off to where they had to be I was back at Eleshas by 4:20am Monday morning. I considered pulling an all-nighter and I might as well have, I ended up in bed by 5 and asleep by around 5.15 I reckon, I only managed around an hours sleep as I was up for work at 6.15. I was late to work due to unforeseeable yet much welcomed circumstances, but nobody seemed to notice at work anyway. Here I am now, it’s almost 1.30pm on Monday, I have an hours sleep up my belt, but I feel great, I’ve hit the V-black to keep me going, but I don’t think I need it, I’m even pondering going to the gym. June 16 Brodie an engineer?Hooray for me…..
Well I officially got my “promotion” at work, well sort of. They are putting me on a 4 week trial where I will be given a project to finish in order to show my “initiative” and that I’m actually capable of doing the job. I will also have to mark up “redline” drawings, however don’t ask me what that is because I don’t even know yet.
Apparently the engineer and the QA guy was impressed with the procedures I have been writing up and the amount of detail I had gone into with the diagrams in MS Paint. If I pass this 4 week trial I will be give a substantial pay rise and they will pay for me to go to either Uni or TAFE. On top of this they mentioned as the company expands I will have numerous opportunities to travel around the world and helping with the installing and fixing of machines.
The down side however is that they will want more commitment from me in the long term. They didn’t mention anything about the time I take off, but they did mention there may be overtime needed as well as weekend work. This does suck but in the long run will probably be worth it.
I’ve never thought about my job as a career before but this changes a lot of things. My boss said if I stayed, went to Uni/TAFE for like four or five years and decided I want to move on because of the lack of opportunities here, he would be more than happy to write me a reference, which would be awfully handy.
I’m also working on Saturday, which I very rarely do, however I’m quite strapped for cash. But it means I will get paid the equivalent to working 2 days instead of just one. Plus what I will be actually doing is very simple and doesn’t involve a whole lot of effort. I can’t wait for this weeks pay check because I’ll actually have some spending money to have fun with, where as recently I have had almost nothing after trying to pay back my massive debt.
So all in all, despite my extreme tiredness (about 10 hours in 4 days, which is a whole other story) I’m buzzing at the moment. This could be the answer I have been looking for in my life, on the other hand it could be a complete waste of time, but I’m just looking at the positives and hoping everything works out for the best.
Here are two pictures of some the diagrams I have done. One picture is all the first diagrams I did when I first started what I am doing. The second picture is a set of diagrams in my latter stages of what I am doing.
June 14 Someone has my ticket!I arrived home yesterday after what was already a very stressful day and what do I find waiting for? A speeding ticket for doing 60km in a 50km zone! Sure I’m in the wrong, but it’s just plain frustrating.
Does anyone ever actually travel 50km in a 50km zone? I know I never have, on top of that it was at like 3am in the morning! I wouldn’t be surprised if I receive a couple more in the next few days because it’s the street I travel down coming home from my girlfriends house of an evening, so I’m starting to stress.
It just hasn’t been a good week for me and cars, last Saturday morning at around 4am Elesha and I were leaving our friends place and we were in an accident. The car hasn’t been looked at yet but I think it may be a write-off. We were both ok thank god, Elesha had a sore head for a few days but that was about it.
The guy who hit us (we had caused the accident, we ran a stop sign) was very nice about it, and really didn’t seem to care at all. He was an ex tow truck driver so luckily he knew what to do because I was quite drunk and Elesha wasn’t to sure. Turns out he was driving a company car anyway and it was suppose to be getting fixed for a previous accident in the next few days. So a situation that could have been a complete disaster turned out not to be so terrible after all. June 13 "Bored" gamesNot to long ago, me and 3 other of my friends started playing a game named Scategories. We grew to love the game and found ourselves playing it more and more often. We even decided to make our own categories for the game one night because we were getting tired of the game cards provided. Now I don’t know if you know the idea behind Scategories, but you roll a 21 sided dice containing most of the letters of the alphabet and you have a timer which counts down from around 3 minutes I believe. In this time you must write down a word starting with the letter rolled on the dice that matches with the 12 categories provided on the game cards. The more words you have the more points you get. However we have now been playing the game so often that we are starting to find that we are rolling the same letter for the same game card on a regular basis.
To me this signifies that we need to get out of the house and find something better to do with our times, or find a new board game. I don’t know how to work out the probability so I’ll list what I think you need to know and I’m sure someone else will do it for me (just like high school really). There are 12 game cards and I think its 21 letters on the dice, you can’t use the same letter twice in one full game (a full game would be playing through the entire 12 game cards), actually I think that’s all you need to know.
Anyway back to my point… well actually I didn’t really have a point I just found it sad that most Mondays (including last night), Tuesdays, Wednesdays and a few weekends also that I’ve spent playing bored games. While fun I’m sure there is something a lot more productive I could be doing. June 09 Long Weekend!Well, the weekend is finally here and I’ve somehow managed to escape another full week of work without anyone noticing. The tally is up to 5 consecutive weeks and running, as next week Monday is a public which will take the count 6. Last year I managed to make it roughly 8 weeks before I had worked a full week, yet again nothing was mentioned by anyone at work. Yet somehow it looks like I may be getting a promotion, go figure.
I’m all pumped for the weekend and the weeks to follow because it’s world cup time again. Last night I went out and bought a Samsung DVD/HDD Recorder to ensure I don’t miss any of the action. This also allows me to watch replays whenever I want, god bless modern technology. The recorder is worth $750 and I got it for a cool $470 and don’t have to have it paid off until June next year. I plan on recording as much as the action as humanly possible, it’s going to be awesome!
On top of the world cup, my copy of the entire 5 seasons of the X-men cartoon arrived from the U.S yesterday, I’ve already watched all of season one and wow did it bring back some memories. It’s amazing how well the movie has kept some of story plots and characters tied in with the movie, thank god however one character they chose not to keep was Jubilee. She is completely useless, I mean her power is shooting some sort of sparkly fireworks crap from her hands, “oh wow look at me, I can put on a rockin’ lights show!” she is no use to any of the X-men and she’s constantly getting into trouble. What characters do you like/dislike the most and why? |
